History has not been altogether kind to Faversham’s Assembly Rooms. The building has survived intact but its elegant interior suffered from decades of institutional use. The beautiful proportions and lovely period details remain and a great deal of work was undertaken to return them to their former glory. In addition, the usual facilities like toilets and kitchen were updated, and the Hall was given disabled access.

The restoration of the Assembly Rooms is being organised by the Faversham Buildings Preservation Trust. The Trust is a registered charity whose board is drawn from a cross section of the local community. The Hall has been restored to it’s former glory and is already proving popular as an events venue. A minor amount of refurbishment work still requires completion and long term funding secured, for which donations would be welcome. The immediate requirement is for £26,000 to reduce borrowings.
